Mountain guide

The profession of mountain guide is a regulated profession in Sweden. The Swedish Council for Higher Education is the competent authority since the 15th of April 2016.

European professional card for mountain guides

The European professional card (EPC) is available for mountain guides who wish to work in another EU country. The EPC is a digital procedure of recognition of professional qualifications and therefore easier and quicker to manage than traditional qualification recognition procedures.

Work in another EU country

The profession of mountain guide is a regulated profession in some, but not in all, countries within the EU. If the profession is regulated in the country where you wish to work you can apply for an EPC or seek recognition of your qualification by the competent authority in the country.

Work in Sweden

If you have obtained your professional qualification in another EU country you can apply for an EPC or seek recognition of your qualification by the Swedish Council for Higher Education.

Mountain guides with professional qualifications obtained outside the EU

If you have obtained your qualification outside the EU, you can apply for an EPC if your qualification has already been recognised in one EU country and you have exercised your profession in that country for at least 3 years following the recognition.
